Calcasieu Parish (cal-ca-shoo) is governed by a 15 member body known as the Police Jury. In the heart of Southwest Louisiana, our parish combines a dynamic economy with cultural traditions unique to this region to make our area a wonderful place to live and work.

City of Sulphur
The City of Sulphur encourages business growth by providing assistance to a prospective business or industry. This includes Enterprise Zones and bond programs, as well as technical assistance. The Louisiana Department of Economic Development offers business incentives in the form of tax exemptions.

Port of Lake Charles
The Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District (Port of Lake Charles) was created under Act 67 of the Louisiana Legislature of 1924. The District encompasses 203 square miles in Calcasieu Parish and accommodates 5 million tons of cargo annually at its public facilities; it owns and operates two marine terminals, the City Docks, Bulk Terminal No. 1, and also 2 industrial parks (Industrial Canal and Industrial Park East). The Port of Lake Charles is the 11th largest seaport in the U.S.

Port of Mermentau
The Port of Mermentau is located one mile north of U.S. Hwy 90 and one mile east of the Village of Mermentau on the Mermentau River. The Mermentau River Harbor and Terminal District was created by Act No. 196 of the 1976 regular session of the Louisiana Legislature. It is governed by board of commissioners consisting of 7 members who serve for a 5-year term. The Mermentau River Harbor and Terminal District is a political subdivision of the state of Louisiana, and its territorial limits extend to the limits of Ward 5 of Acadia Parish.

Ports Association of Louisiana
The Ports Association of Louisiana (PAL) was founded in 1984 to aid in the advancement of Louisiana ports. PAL is a nonprofit trade association representing voluntary member ports and affiliated organizations. PAL helps to encourage economic development within the State of Louisiana.

The West Calcasieu Assocation of Commerce supports businesses, churches, schools in the communities of Sulphur, Vinton, and Westlake.

West Cameron Port Commission
The Port is located on the U.S. Gulf of Mexico with territorial limits and jurisdiction of all the area comprising Wards 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Parish of Cameron, Louisiana. The West Cameron Port Commission was created in 1968 by R.S. 35:2551 with jurisdiction comprised of Wards 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Parish of Cameron, Louisiana.
