SULPHUR, La, Nov. 3, 2008 – “Growing the port and developing the economy of Southwest Louisiana
is very important to our board of directors,” said Larry Mashburn, president of the WCP board. “But, in
this day and age, if you aren’t highly visible on the internet, you really are not in the race. “With the launch
of the West Cal Port’s new website, we’re confident that we will be casting a wider net to attract
prospective tenants,” he added.
In addition to providing website visitors with easy access to valuable information about the shallowwater
port on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, the new website also introduces them to a comprehensive list of
“valued partners” that the WCP aligns with to promote economic development growth in Southwest Louisiana.
“The West Cal Port is committed to attracting new businesses, while providing topnotch service to our existing
clients,” Mashburn said. “We can’t do that in a vacuum; it takes a team effort.”
“That’s why we’ve included links to our tenants, to state and national organizations and government agencies,
and to other maritime facilities associated with the Southwest Louisiana Port Network,” he added.
Mashburn explained that the website, itself, is the finished product of strategic partnering among public/private
agencies.
“A grant funded by the Louisiana Department of Economic Development and made available through the
Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance, helped offset the website design costs,” he said.
“Critical resource sharing between state and local entities is critical to growing our local economy.”
Mashburn referred to the WCP as a “diamond in the ruff” with its strategic location just two miles west of
the Calcasieu River Ship Channel, and mid way between Houston and New Orleans on the GIWW.
The WCP website was designed by Webteknologie, a local company owned by Michelle Woodyear and
Curtis McBroom. The website is powered by Lafayettebased Bizzuka, the creators of OnDeCC, a webcontent
management platform. The WCP website represents the first joint project for the two firms.
Located 12 miles south of Interstate 10 on Highway 27, the WCP offers 2,500 feet of waterfront property on the
GIWW with 12foot water depth.
Current tenant activity includes barge operations, maritime fueling service, dry cargo barge cleaning, diesel repair,
heavyequipment contracting and maritime supply operations.
